About me

My name is Elisa Balbi. I am a psychologist and psychotherapist, and for over twenty years I have been helping people who feel stuck—whether due to fear, a persistent thought, a painful relationship, or a goal that seems unattainable—to find a concrete and lasting solution.

My approach is based on Brief Strategic Psychotherapy, a model developed through international clinical research and grounded in a simple yet powerful principle: every problem has a logic to it, and understanding that logic is the first step toward resolving it.
I don’t spend years rehashing the past; instead, I work in the present, using precise interventions tailored to the person in front of me.

At my practice in Pesaro, I treat anxiety disorders and panic attacks, eating disorders, performance anxiety, relationship difficulties, depression, and much more.

I work with adults, adolescents, and families, and I also support professionals and companies through coaching and strategic problem-solving.

No matter where we start, the goal is always the same: for you to leave my office with something more—not just a solution to your problem, but a new ability to face whatever lies ahead.

My Journey

The Beginnings

I graduated with a degree in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of Bologna, earning a grade of 110/110 with honors, with a thesis on early mother-infant interactions and attachment styles.

It was that in-depth research that made me realize how quickly—and how profoundly—relationships shape the way a person experiences themselves and the world.

Shortly thereafter, after winning a national grant, I received training in the Lovaas Method, working with children aged 3 to 11 who have communication disorders.

An experience that teaches me something fundamental: communication is not just what we say, but the mechanism through which we build—or block—our ability to exist in the world.

The meeting that changes everything

Reading *The Pragmatics of Communication* by Watzlawick, Beavin, and Jackson, followed by Giorgio Nardone’s writings, has opened up a whole new world for me.

I began attending the School of Specialization in Brief Strategic Psychotherapy, affiliated with the MRI in Palo Alto, and realized that was the path for me.

I started as a tutor, then became a faculty member, and finally the sole director of the school: a journey built year by year on mutual respect with my mentor, and on a passion for education that I have never stopped nurturing.

His early publications and the opening of his practice

In 2008, *Solcare il mare all'insaputa del cielo*—a seminal work on Strategic Logic—was published; it has been translated into major languages and released in English-speaking countries under the title *The Logic of Therapeutic Change* (2015).

That same year, I opened a branch office in Pesaro affiliated with the Center for Strategic Therapy in Arezzo, which remains the city’s first and only such facility.

In the years that followed, I applied the Model to settings where people grow and develop: I published books focused on schools, adolescents, and families, and contributed to collective works on obsessive-compulsive disorders and parent-child dynamics.

I also specialize in problem-solving, communication, and strategic coaching, and I’ve started working as a trainer and consultant in schools and businesses.

En el escenario mundial y en las empresasA

I presented at the World Conferences on Brief Strategic Therapy, first in Chianciano Terme and then in Florence, sharing the results of clinical research with leading figures in the international field of psychology.

I’ve come to realize that my theatrical training from my youth and scientific rigor are not at odds with one another: communicating clearly and with presence is, in itself, a therapeutic act.

At the same time, the application of the Model is expanding to include performance and organizational management.

I became a professor in the Master’s program in Strategic Communication, first in Italy and then in Spanish-speaking countries, and I work as a consultant for companies such as iGuzzini Illuminazione.

New frontiers

Together with Giorgio Nardone and Elena Boggiani, I am publishing *Il piacere mancato*, a book dedicated to sexual disorders and new addictions linked to digital technologies.

A book born out of clinical observations of increasingly common yet still poorly understood phenomena, with the aim of offering not only an accurate analysis of the problem but also concrete solutions backed by field research.

My present

Since 2021, I have served as the course supervisor for the ASL psychologists’ program in Viterbo, the first research project on the application of brief strategic psychotherapy to anxiety disorders within the public healthcare system.

I teach in Barcelona, where I train the future strategic therapists of the Latin world, and I am part of a select group chosen directly by Giorgio Nardone to address the clinical needs of the Center for Strategic Therapy in Arezzo.

Every day, whether in my office in Pesaro, in the classroom, or during supervision, I do the same work: helping people—and the professionals who support them—find the solutions they’re looking for.
